Rayfront Demo Frequently Asked Questions
The following lists the most common problems that you can
encounter when using the Rayfront demo. If you have difficulties
running the program, please check here first for a solution.
-
Q: I get "Key file not found" after I installed the key
-
A:
Most likely there is some confusion about the file name.
Depending on your system settings, Windows will lie to you
about what the real name of a file is. If you have the
"extension hiding" feature turned on in explorer (which is
the default), then you may see "rf104demo.key", while in
reality the name of the file is "rf104demo.key.txt".
The simplest way to find out the truth is through a DOS box,
and to fix it with the "rename" command there.

Q: I get "Key file not valid" after I installed the key
-
A:
There are two common problems that result in this behaviour:
The file was not stored in text format, but eg. as a
Microsoft Word binary file. Make sure that you save as
"text only".
Some e-mail programs fail to decode the message correctly,
which results in certain characters being displaced with
special codes. If the values of all three data lines in
the file contain the "=3D" sequence, just replace all those
instances with a simple "=".
You forgot to include the curly braces in your file (the
notice to include them in the instructions is easily overlooked).
There have been other examples of munged keys, including
one example where it was all combined on a single line.
The easiest check is to open the created file in a simple text
editor like notepad, and to visually compare what you see there
with the original.
-
Q: The Rayfront demo starts but complains that it can't find certain files.
-
A:
Most likely, you're running a consumer version of Windows
(Windows95/98/ME) on your computer.
Rayfront is only supported for the professional systems
Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Linux, Irix, and Solaris.
