Mixture Types

Mixtures are used to blend two materials, or two pattern/texture modifiers with each other, referred to as foreground and background. The mixture defines how much weight each of the mixed properties will get at a specific point on a surface. In many cases, this is used to have apply two different materials to one geometry element in a desired pattern, such as flooring tiles of different color.

Mixtures can also be used to cut "holes" into a surface, by only assigning a material to either the foreground or the background state of the function and leaving the other one empty. The assignment of materials and modifiers is done in the modifier tree display of the material assignment dialog.

Mixfunc

The functional mixture type applies materials or other modifiers to a surface according to a defined function, possibly from a function file.

Mixdata, Mixpict

The data driven mixture type applies materials or other modifiers to a surface according to data read from a file.

The mixpict mixture type applies materials or other modifiers to a surface according to the color values found in a picture file.

Mixtext

The mixtext mixture type applies materials or other modifiers to a surface according to the outline of some text, as displayed in a specified font.
